Winemaker
Thomas Bachelder, a globally recognized Canadian winemaker and the original founding winemaker of Le Clos Jordanne, specializes in crafting exceptional cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines. Hailing from the dairy farming region east of Montréal, Quebec, Thomas developed a profound appreciation for agriculture early in life. His journey into winemaking began in 1985 with a home winemaking kit, but it was a transformative honeymoon trip to Burgundy that sparked his full-time commitment to the craft.
After gaining experience in Burgundy and Oregon, Thomas returned to Canada in 2003 to lead Le Clos Jordanne, where he was captivated by the unique terroir of the Jordan Bench. Under his guidance, Le Clos Jordanne quickly gained global recognition, particularly for its Claystone Terrace Chardonnay, which earned him the title of Winemaker of the Year at the Ontario Wine Awards.
His approach emphasizes minimal intervention, allowing the region’s personality to shine through. Now, he returns to oversee the revival of Domaine Le Clos Jordanne, bringing with him his extensive knowledge, passion, and terroir-focused style.
